Tell me this happens to you all the time.
You plan on doing one thing, something that you’re truly excited about, but by the end of the day you’ve completely sabotaged that really amazing idea by doing something that undermines the very nature of the original plan.
Well, that’s sort of what happened with this post.
I was really excited to write a post about good health, fitness, getting in shape, and losing the proverbial baby weight. Not that I’ve suddenly become Jillian Michaels or anything, but more as a self-motivation tactic.
But before I knew what hit me… I was baking bread with the new bread maker I received for my birthday. That’s the self-sabotage part.
Homemade bread = healthy
Inhaling loaf of bread while snarling at Noob Baby passersby = problematic
See, here’s the thing. You can’t have a beautiful silky ball of dough like this…
that bakes into a fluffy golden loaf like this…
…and still proceed with a post about getting in shape and eating smart without feeling just a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit guilty.
So, there you have it; your formal introduction to our newest and *maybe* my new favorite member of the family – Cuisinart Breadmaker 200. I love that in just a few hours I was using two ingredients I’ve never worked with before – yeast and bread flour – and rolling bread dough, which I’ve also never done.
Thank you to my sister and cousin for giving me the gift that keeps on giving, aka the gift that shall give me back the Freshman 15 (thanks for nothin). But also the gift that officially makes me Noob Mommy, the Modern Domestic Goddess. My people voted, so who am I to say no to such an honor.
I learned another thing while I was making my first loaf of French bread. Do not use the glorious breadmaker when Noob Baby is trying to take a nap. Silent like a Slow Cooker? Ummm, not so much. It’s only appropriate that I, Noob Mommy, would not realize that mechanically kneading dough in a big tin can is equivalent to running a jackhammer next to your baby’s crib. Noooooo recommendo. Comprende?
Anyway, I am planning to write that post about how to get healthy and lose your muffin top “baby weight” next. Stay tuned for that! In the meantime, I have to get my writer’s juices flowing with a little slice of the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl bread I made this afternoon. (Exit stage left. Shooting self in foot).
P.S. I hate to pull a switch on you again, but I couldn’t resist. For those of you reading through email or RSS, click on over to Noob Mommy.com and check out my latest blog face lift. I think this design is a little more “me.”
