After receiving some great comments and questions about our Sleep Training with Noob Baby, I thought I’d better post some FAQ about NB. Don’t tell her I’m doing this, she’ll be so pissed!
Name: Noob Baby
Nicknames: Pumpkinhead, Thrifty Double Scoop (if you’ve ever eaten a Thrifty’s ice cream cone, you’ll recall how they were shaped like rectangles)
Birthday: May 29, 2008
Weight: 18 lbs.
Height: 2′ 2″
She takes between 2-3 naps a day. Her naps are usually at 9:00, 12:00, and 3:00. They range from 45 mins – 1.5 hrs. Her afternoon nap is usually the longest. Do you feed her before naps to make her drowsy?
Nope. I prefer Nyquil. Kidding!
What is her bedtime routine?
Currently, her bedtime is around 7 pm. We give her a bath then follow up with a bottle. I try to read her a bedtime story, but at that point, she just wants to eat & sleep.
She uses a paci for naps and bedtime only. However, it seems to be a toy more than anything. She pops it in and out of her mouth, and sometimes chucks it over the side of the crib (Noob Mommy golfclaps unamused). I usually replace it if she’s very fussy, but that’s rare. Luckily, she’s old enough to find the paci now on her own. Score!
We have a sound machine and a Fisher Price Aquarium. If you recall from this earlier post, our neighborhood puts Stomp to shame. She also has a few little toys in the crib to keep her entertained before she falls asleep or when she wakes.
Thanks to the sleep training, yes. She sleeps from 7 pm – 6 am. She was never an awful sleeper (waking just once around 3-4 am), but I knew she was doing it out of habit and not hunger.
I have never been happier to say that those days are behind us (for now). We rocked NB since she was born, and when we weren’t rocking her, she was in a swing. And when I say rock, I don’t mean sitting in our glider gazing fondly into her adorable eyes. I mean, we had to do deep thigh lunges (think J-Lo workout) back-and-forth across the nursery for at least 30 minutes.
After her sleep training, we can now set NB down in her crib fully awake for her naps and bedtime. She will play anywhere from 5-15 min, then fall asleep on her own.
These guys think that’s pretty freakin cool:
NB is formula fed and eating basic solids. She has 4 bottles a day (about 7 oz. each). I think I’m supposed to be decreasing that amount as she eats more solids. For now, she seems happy with this arrangement. I’ve just started making my own baby food – all organic. It’s healthier and cheaper! Mostly, I love not having all those baby food jars around the house.
She likes jumperoo-ing and playing the piano. She also enjoys scheming with Wildebeest Von Fang.
We think it’s now a wispy mullet. I know… those are the worst kind. Check out this post about NB’s hair.
Got more questions? I’ll try my best to answer them. And that’s your daily dose of TMI!

Hi noob mommy!
I really like your page and it’s an inspiration for me. I followed your EASY schedule. It was really a great help for my 6 month 2 week old baby boy. He is good at daytime with his schedule and all. The problem I’m facing with his sleep. He doesn’t want to sleep of his own. Even I try your CIO method but I fail to do so… At night he really gives me a hard time. After every 2 hours he will cry for milk to soothe himself and this has become his sleep pattern and habit. My husband and I are having a hard time to sleep at night without any disturbances. I don’t remember when did we sleep for longer like 2-3 hrs. Noob mommy I really need your help and solution. Please help us. It would be a really great help for us. Thanks you
